So true! There’s nothing like that feeling of motivation. It’s a great high!

It does fade rather quickly, though. Only discipline can sustain the actions that first carried that motivation.

That’s why the purpose of the discipline has to be strong. Otherwise, why do it.

Agree with this so much! Personally for me, reducing friction has been the most impactful to drive discipline and the habits I'm trying to establish.

Discipline over motivation—such a truth! I’ve learned firsthand that motivation can be so fleeting; it shows up when it wants, but discipline keeps you moving even on the toughest days. There were times in my career where the excitement had faded, but the discipline I built helped me push through and still show up fully. Embracing discipline has been the game-changer for me, allowing consistent progress, even when motivation was nowhere to be found.

I have been studying productivity, growth mindset, etc. for a long time, and I don't recall seeing anyone make this important distinction. Thank you! Discipline has worked wonders for me--particularly in terms of my health and productivity. I invite you and others to visit my Mind Inclined Substack, which features, among other things, a podcast I call "Ring the Bell: A Podcast for a Better You and a Better World."
